One of the most frequently asked questions my students and consultees ask is how I determine when to start and stop bilateral stimulation (BLS). Starting at the beginning the desensitization phase is when we start. My client and I have already determined the type of BLS in the Preparation phase. Right after asking where my client feels sensations in their body (the end of the Assessment phase) is the correct time to begin.

A Commentary on the Need for the “Relational” in EMDR Training and Practice Part I

Relational EMDRThis is a commentary on EMDR based on my observations from clinical practice that adds the relational perspective to Francine Shapiro’s standard methodology. During the last 19 years I have conducted thousands of EMDR sessions. The patterns of response I have seen in my clients and the latest discoveries in the neurosciences, which support my conviction in the relational imperative, have prompted me to write this commentary.
